The mornings at Varanasi ghats (river banks) are surreal.
As the sun rises people flock to the ghats to do their morning worship; and this activity has been existant here for thousands of years, just like this place itself. The ghats of the city are sacred, many of them were built under the patronage of India’s erstwhile princely states such as Darbhanga, Jaipur, Indore etc. The boat-ride at sunrise is an excellent opportunity to observe the local people without their usual masks, which they put on during the day.
But to do this amazing experience, you will need to get up at the crack of dawn…
